Photoactivated Processes
Smart light harvesting for solar fuels and sustainable applications
What we do?
The Photoactivated Processes Unit develops technologies for the efficient and intelligent harvesting of light to drive photoactivated processes aimed at the production of sustainable fuels and energy and environmental applications.
Team members
Research Areas
- Production of solar fuels through CO₂ photoreduction, water splitting and photoreforming of biomass-derived products.
- Development of multifunctional inorganic and hybrid materials.
- Optimisation of reactivity through an in-depth understanding of the physicochemical properties of materials under reaction conditions.
- Process assessment and scale-up.
Facilities
The Photoactivated Processes Unit has laboratory facilities for materials characterisation, reactors and other specialised tools and equipment, including an X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) system for the in situ characterisation of photocatalytic processes.
