Sistema dinámico para la Compensación de Potencia Activa y Reactiva en Sistemas Eléctricos de Potencia
Research project corresponding to the 2022 call for proposals, reference number CPP2022-010120, under the “Public-Private Collaboration Projects” funding programme.
Within the framework of the Spanish Strategic Projects for the Ecological and Digital Transition, the main challenge addressed by DYNAMIC-COMPENSATION relates to the ecological transition in the field of Electronic, Electrical and Automatic Engineering. Key challenges identified in this call include the large-scale deployment of renewable energy sources and the development of energy storage systems. Plans to achieve a fully decarbonised electricity system require the installation of a large number of solar photovoltaic plants, wind farms and other renewable energy facilities. However, in their basic configuration, most of these plants are unable to provide certain services, such as regulated power output, which can be delivered by conventional technologies (such as combined-cycle power plants).
In this context, power electronic converters are a key technology for enabling the flexible injection of active and reactive power into electrical grids. In most cases, several devices must be used together to meet all the services requested by the Transmission System Operator (TSO) (AC/DC and DC/DC converters, batteries and passive components). The design of dynamic systems that can be easily built and configured to compensate active and/or reactive power is of great commercial interest. Therefore, it would be possible to market this device for many specific applications with minimal engineering effort.
