HYLIOS

Innovative Photocatalytic Systems for Green Hydrogen Production from Wastewater

Research project corresponding to the 2022 call for proposals, reference number CPP2022-010052, under the “Public-Private Collaboration Projects” funding programme.

The HYLIOS project was created with the objective of promoting a paradigm shift in the wastewater treatment sector and other chemical industries, which are typically associated with high energy and potable water consumption. Through the development of innovative new technologies, the project aims to transform current Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), traditionally considered energy and waste sinks, into new energy-efficient facilities that recover and valorise resources. Specifically, HYLIOS will focus on promoting innovative solutions for the sustainable and efficient generation of green hydrogen (and oxygen) through the photocatalytic splitting of water using treated wastewater.
