To mark World Environmental Education Day on 26 January, researchers from IMDEA Energy visited IES Vega del Tajuña secondary school to carry out scientific activities with sixth form students.

During the activity, the centre’s Biotechnological Processes, Photoactivated Processes, Electrochemical Processes, Electrical Systems and Advanced Porous Materials units shared with the students what their work is like and what the lines of research they develop at the institute consist of, explaining how science moves from the laboratory to real applications related to energy and the environment.

In addition, practical and interactive activities were organised with the aim of showing the students the application of scientific research. They were able to participate in various workshops, including the construction of photovoltaic solar panels, a fermentation experiment for the production of lactic acid from grapes and yoghurt, experiments to measure the conductivity of different liquids, and a Kahoot quiz to test their knowledge.
