On the occasion of 11 February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, IMDEA Energy welcomed more than 30 students from IES León Felipe (Getafe) for a day dedicated to highlighting the role of women in science and encouraging scientific vocations among younger generations.

The event began with a presentation in the institute’s auditorium, where the significance of this date and the reasons behind its celebration were explained. The session included an overview of the role of women in science from both a historical and contemporary perspective, incorporating data on gender equality in various STEM fields. The aim was to convey a clear message: talent has no gender, and the lower representation of women in certain sectors is not due to a lack of ability, but rather to the persistence of social and cultural factors that continue to significantly influence academic and career choices.

Following the presentation, researchers from the institute’s different units introduced the work carried out in each area of IMDEA Energy, outlining the centre’s main research lines and sharing their professional experiences. They then organized a range of educational activities focused on prominent women in science, in which students actively participated. These included a card game matching researchers with their respective fields of study, a “Pasapalabra”-style quiz, a themed Kahoot, hands-on dye dissolution experiments, and a visit to the pilot plant of the solar simulator.
