Clean Energy in the Mediterranean: Powering Research

On 3rd June 2025, IMDEA Energy will participate in the “Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP) Stakeholder Event”, organised by Xjenza Malta at the Planetarium Hall of the Bighi Complex, Kalkara (Malta). This gathering will bring together researchers, institutional representatives, energy sector professionals and other key stakeholders to discuss the future of clean energy in the Mediterranean region.
Representing IMDEA Energy will be Milan Prodanovic, Head of the Electrical Systems Analysis Unit, who will present the European project HVDC4ISLANDS and take part as a speaker in the panel session during Session 2 of the event. His presentation will focus on the opportunities offered by advances technologies to enhance stability, flexibility and integration of renewable energies in islands power systems.
The HVDC4ISLANDS Project centres on the study and development of high voltage direct current (HVDC) and hybrid DC/AC systems applied to reconfigurable energy islands. Its objectives include analyzing technical configurations, improving interoperability between grids, managing multi-vector energy demand and developing storage, protection and control solutions adapted to various scenarios. The project also includes a techno-economic environmental assessment of the proposed solutions and their integration into national and European energy markets.
The event will feature interactive sessions, panel discussion and presentations of CETPartnership-funded projects involving experts both local and international.
