On Friday, September 27th, the IMDEA Energy Institute became the epicenter of science and fun for more than 200 people with the activity “Energy Guardians: Building a Sustainable Future,” organized as part of the European Researchers’ Night. The event, aimed at children, offered a unique experience to introduce them to the world of renewable energy through eight practical and interactive workshops.

Throughout the afternoon, the young participants embarked on a journey of discovery and learning, engaging in various activities that allowed them to understand how renewable energies work and the importance of taking care of our planet. The workshops, designed to be both fun and educational, included a wide range of experiences such as calculating their own carbon footprint, experimenting with pH solutions to find their scientific “superpower,” competing in robot races controlled by the conductivity of different materials, and even creating ‘elephant toothpaste’ to understand the functioning of nanomaterials and their potential applications in future medicine, as well as launching their own rockets.

In addition, Julio Lado, Researcher at IMDEA Energía, participated in the activity organised together with the rest of the IMDEA Institutes at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, where he shared his research work and explained how electrochemistry is contributing a lot to environmental innovation.
