GeoBATT: Hybridization of geothermal energy and flow batteries for heating and cooling of zero-energy tertiary use buildings

Research project with file number RTC-2017-5955-3, coordinated by the company Sacyr Industrial, corresponding to the 2017 call for the granting of aid corresponding to the Challenges-Collaboration call of the State Programme for Research, Development and Innovation Oriented towards the Challenges of Society of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities/AEI.

The GeoBATT project aims to develop a new energy technology that supplies air conditioning systems in buildings based on the hybridisation of underground thermal energy storage (low-enthalpy geothermal energy) with electrical energy storage by means of flow batteries, in order to obtain buildings with almost zero energy consumption, with application in both developed and developing countries, contributing to a more sustainable building industry.
