The main objective of PRODIGIO is the development of a system failure prediction model that increases the performance of microalgae biomass production and anaerobic digestion systems. Microalage culture allows recovering nutrients from waste streams, while producing an algae biomass that can be subjected to anaerobic digestion to produce a bioenergy stream (biogas). The optimization of these processes promotes the technology scaling up and advance towards more favorable techno-economic, environmental and social performance to achieve more sustainable microalgae biogas.
In the framework of this European project, IMDEA Energy, leading working package 2, is involved in elucidating the process warning indicators that allow predicting the anaerobic digestion failure. The scaling up of the process normally results in efficiency decrease in terms of biogas production. For that reason, the identification of warning indicators and the development of a prediction model will support the biogas production optimization at industrial scale.
