Nearly 100 children between the ages of 5 and 10 have participated with their families in IMDEA Energía’s outreach activities on the occasion of the European Researchers’ Night.

After having carried out the workshops in online format in the last two years due to the COVID pandemic, the meeting has resumed the face-to-face format, with a set of workshops under the title ‘On the move towards a circular economy’.

The children were able to pedal bicycles to generate electric energy and make several racing cars go around a circuit, ‘capture’ CO2 and enclose it in soap bubbles, solve interactive questionnaires and puzzle solving, carry out a “mini-fermentation” by mixing fresh yeast with hot water and sugar, test several microscopes, understand the concept of “concentration of sunlight” by melting chocolate, or discover how conductive materials work, such as a paper clip or pencil graphite, by making several electric circuits work with toy boats.

At the end, all participants enjoyed an ‘energizing snack’.

The aim is to raise awareness among children about the importance of the efficient use of resources to build a circular and sustainable world, to try to explain to them how energy and the different ways we use it can change the world and its habitability.

We look forward to seeing you in 2023!
