REDEFINERY: Redefining the waste-energy nexus: a new concept of regional refinery for the circular economy

Research project corresponding to the call 2018 and reference: RTI2018-097227-B-I00, within the State Program of Research, Development and Innovation Oriented Challenges of the Society (Research Challenges 2018).

The REDEFINERY project proposes a global model for the sustainability assessment of the management of all the wastes generated in a region to optimize its overall economic, environmental and social performance, and to evaluate the potential role of new thermochemical treatments in a future circular economy scenario.

The REDEFINERY approach defines all the existing and new treatment and recovery plants as units of a larger and distributed facility; this methodological strategy is defined as a regional refinery.
