Newcomers seminar

Next February 28th at 12 we will hold a new session of the seminar for newcomers in the auditorium.
The first speaker will be Dr. Khaoula Benhnich, from the System Analysis Unit, with the talk entitled “Robust sustainability assessments of energy products: from material through processes to end of life solutions”.
The second one will be Dr. Marchelo Echeverri, from the Photoactivated Processes Unit, with the talk “New multi stimuli-responsive organic semiconductors for smart materials».
Dr Khaoula Ben Hnich is a postdoctoral researcher and part of the Systems Analysis Unit (SAU) at IMDEA Energy Institute. In SAU, her primary research focuses on the sustainability evaluation of hydrogen technologies, considering the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, economic, and social. Khaoula obtained her PhD in Chemical Process engineering (2021) from the National Engineering School of Gabes – ENIG, Tunisia. During her PhD studies she was able to gain more expertise in energy systems, in particular Fischer Tropsch and hydroprocessing reactor technologies, during a 3-month research internship at the institute “DVGW Research Station at Engler-Bunte-Institute (KIT Engler-Bunte-Institut (EBI) (2019)), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany.” In September 2020, she joined IMDEA Energy’s SAU(Spain) as an intern, where she evaluated the sustainability of a process converting palm date waste into biofuels. In October 2022, she joined the teaching staff at ISSAT Gabes as a contractual university assistant. Along with her teaching activities, she was part of the team responsible for calculating the carbon footprints of products and systems, within a consulting company (Green Footprint) (Tunisia).
Dr. Marcelo Echeverri is a postdoctoral researcher and part of the photoactivated process unit at IMDEA Energy Institute. His primary research focuses on organic and hybrid semiconductors for solar fuels technologies. Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM/CSIC) in 2021. He has successfully worked in fields ranging from antitumour chemistry to materials science and has experience in the synthesis of organic polymers and semiconductors for organic electronics, catalysis, photocatalysis, smart materials, light emitting and sensing applications. He is a young scientist with publications in high-impact scientific journals such as Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Chemistry of Materials, etc. He has previously worked as a researcher at the Advantx Technological Foundation involved in three European projects on CO2 valorisation and capture (CATCO2NVERS, CO2SMOS and HICCUPS).
