Newcomers seminar

Next February 7th at 12 we will hold a new session of the seminar for newcomers in the auditorium.

The first speaker will be Dr. Mauro Álvarez, from the Thermochemical Processes Unit, with the talk entitled “From the ground to the sky: Oligomerization of ethylene for Sustainable Aviation Fuels”.

The second one will be Dr. Beatrice Musig, from the High Temperature Processes Unit, with the talk “Cerium oxide for CO₂ recycling: from plasma catalysis to solar fuels”.

Dr. Mauro Álvarez is currently a postdoctoral researcher at IMDEA Energy, working within the Thermochemical Process Unit. He is involved in the HUBS MADRID VUELA SOSTENIBLE project, which focuses on developing technologies for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs). He obtained his master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Oviedo in 2017 and shortly after completed an internship at ArcelorMittal R&D Gent (Belgium). Later, he received his Ph.D in Chemical and Environmental Engineering in 2023 from the University of Oviedo and under the supervision of Prof. Salvador Ordóñez and Prof. Pablo Marín. His doctoral work targeted the use of zeolites for the chemical upgrading of coal mining emissions to higher value products, which was part of the European Project METHENERGY+. After his PhD, Dr Álvarez performed a postdoctoral stay of almost a year at Charles University (Czech Republic) at the Heterogeneous Catalysis and Advanced Materials research group led by Prof. Jiří Čejka. During this stay he worked on the catalytic testing of industrially produced zeolites and on the partial hydrogenation of triple to double carbon bonds using non-noble metals.

Dr. Beatrice Musig  is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the High Temperature Processes Unit at IMDEA Energía to work in the framework of the Sun-to-Liquid II project developing the efficient production of sustainable fuels from water, CO2 and concentrated sunlight. She did her PhD as part of an Marie Sklodoskwa Curie Action project on plasma-catalysis for CO2 valorization.
