IMDEA Energía is opening a Postdoctoral Scientist Position for the Electrochemical Processes Unit associated to a European project (Call: H2020-FETPROACT-2020-2) lead by Dr. Rebeca Marcilla. This project, entitled “Multi-Electron Processes for Light Driven Electrodes and Electrolytes in Conversion and Storage of Solar Energy”, merges solar-powered energy storage with multi-charge transfer capability. This open Postdoctoral Position will be dedicated to the Development of Solar Rechargeable Redox Flow Batteries, a new type of devices that integrate solar energy conversion and electrochemical storage.

This program offers 35 fellowships for early-stage researchers of any nationality to pursue their PhD studies in research centres accredited with the Spanish Seal of Excellence Severo Ochoa, María de Maeztu or Health Institute Carlos III and Portuguese units accredited as “excellent” or “exceptional” according to the evaluation of the Fundação de Ciência e Tecnologia.

 El Instituto IMDEA Energía es un centro de investigación creado por el Gobierno Regional de la Comunidad de Madrid para desarrollar actividades de I+D de excelencia en tecnologías energéticas limpias y renovables. El programa científico de IMDEA Energía tiene como principal línea de actuación contribuir al futuro desarrollo y establecimiento de un sistema energético sostenible con un elevado grado de descarbonización, económicamente competitivo y en el que se garantice la seguridad de suministro. 

El Instituto IMDEA Energía ha obtenido la acreditación de Excelencia María de Maeztu que concede la Agencia Estatal de Investigación y que reconoce el liderazgo científico internacional de IMDEA Energía en el ámbito de las energías renovables y las tecnologías energéticas limpias y sus capacidades para contribuir a avanzar en la frontera del conocimiento, generar resultados de alto impacto y atraer talento internacional.

El objetivo general del proyecto de investigación se basa en el diseño de nuevos materiales híbrido orgánico-inorgánico tipo MOF (por sus siglas en inglés Metal-Organic Frameworks) con aplicación en baterías. Este tipo de materiales están compuestos por unidades inorgánicas conectadas entre sí por ligandos orgánicos polidentados perfectamente ordenados en una estructura cristalina. Recientemente, algunos de estos MOFs han mostrado propiedades conductoras muy prometedoras. En este proyecto se pretende diseñar MOFs “a medida” con propiedades electroquímicas adecuadas para ser utilizados como electrodos en baterías avanzadas con altas prestaciones.

1st Workshop & Progress Meeting of POLYSTORAGE-ETN Project

The first online Workshop of the MSCA ITN-ETN POLYSTORAGE organized by the University of the Basque Country (Spain) and co-organized by the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (Germany) was held the 1st of October. The POLYSTORAGE project involves the production of highly innovative polymeric electrolytes and active polymeric materials for advanced post-lithium batteries and benefits of different beneficiaries (12 incl. 2 companies) and 11 associated entities (incl. 9 companies). IMDEA Energy participates in the consortium training two Early Stage Researchers in the development of redox active polymers for different battery technology.

This event started by a trainer workshop for early stage researchers (PhD candidates) within the ITN network about “Safeguarding good scientific practice & gender awareness". Second part of the workshop was an open to public scientific lecture session about “Polymers & Batteries” with prominent speakers listed below:

More than 100 researchers attended the event!
Among the speakers, Rebeca Marcilla Senior Researcher from ECPU Unit presented quite interesting results about conjugated redox polymers applied as electrode materials. The presentation included results recently achieved in the field of the synthesis and application of antraquinone-based polymers in half-cell configuration.
